Below is a brief description of all the courses provided by Digireal Studios. Please note that the courses are scalable and you can choose to complete them in one year, 6 months or 3 months. Find out more here.

Live Online meetings/lessons: 2 hours, once a week (unless the course is scaled down).

Enrollment Requirements: No prior knowledge is required for any of the Level 1 courses.

Minimum Hardware Requirement: Laptop or Desktop (Windows or OS X), 4GB RAM, dual core cpu, microphone, speakers.

General information:

The courses are offered online via a live and interactive platform that allows students to interact with the other students and the teacher in the same way they would if they were in a physical classroom. The lessons are not prerecorded videos, however they are recorded during the session so that students can access the video and have their questions answered again and again. This helps the students learn faster as they do not need to spend time taking notes thus remain focus on the session and ask questions. A student can join the lessons from almost any device and location globally that has access to the internet. The students will have weekly assignments based on the content they will be trained on that week. Support is always provided to the students Monday to Friday 10a.m-8p.m for any inquiries regarding the sessions and projects. Students will also join Digireal Studios’s community groups online to help them engage with the rest of the students from previous years, post work, ask questions and seek further support and feedback.

 

Game & Movie Design – Concept Art (Level 2) (Prior knowledge is required: Concept Art Level 1)

Who is it for: Anyone interested into developing advanced digital concept art design techniques in regards to applying for a job. University students or graduates who aim to level up their skills fast. Industry professionals seeking further knowledge.

Course Details:

The attendants of the Level 2 Game & Movie Design – Concept Art course will further develop their digital design skills acquired in Level 1 by learning advance tips and tricks along with specialized training in the area of Matte painting. The course will train the students using image editing applications from day one throughout the course. The first three months of the course is focusing on teaching advance level techniques within image editing applications that are required to build efficiency in a production level environment. A skilled concept artist working within a studio is usually able to produce a complete concept painting between one and two hours of work, therefore, the course is not only focusing on developing the fundamental skills required for the field of concept design but also aims to build up speed to match the industry’s standard pace.

Added to the above, the attendants will learn advance techniques to be able to finalize their concept designs into high quality production standard stills called Matte Paintings. A selection of concept designs will be produced to a higher level of detail and broken down into foreground, middle ground and background layer plates that will be further edited within video editing applications for camera animation purposes. A series of advance post-production workflow techniques will be provided through the workshops that will enhance the Matte Painting’s visual aesthetics. In addition, the attendants will be required to record their process from the first stage of concept design until the final stage of their Matte-Painting. Lastly, a constructive video showing the whole design process will be edited to showcase the students’ work.

By the end of the course, a professional portfolio will be built using a series of digital environments designed from many angles, along with complete digital character charts that include poses, facial expressions, props and more. In addition, the students are expected to gain a solid understanding of the advance techniques that are required to design complex ideas and also feel confident using image editing applications. The students will also acquire specific post-production knowledge using video editing tools to showcase the production process between Concept Design and Matte Painting and lastly create a camera animation with visual effects using the final Matte Painting.

 

3D Modeling (Level 2) (Prior knowledge required: 3D Modeling Level 1)

Who is it for: Anyone who already is familiar with 3D modeling techniques and is seeking to develop further skills in regards to applying for a job in the Games & Movies Industry. University students/graduates who aim to level up their skills fast. Industry professionals.

Course Details:

The Level 2 3D modeling course is an intense training dedicated on producing state of the art 3D models targeting the Games & Movies industries. The attendants will be extensively trained in the field of High Resolution Modeling for 3D animation and Low Resolution for 3D Games. At the beginning of the course the students will be expected to decide their targeted field of choice and following a series of workshops, create advanced level characters and sceneries that reflect industry standards techniques and workflows.

The course will be split in two parts. The first part is highly focused on designing concept art that is either targeting a game scene or a movie shot. The students are expected to use their prior knowledge to design environment maps, orthographic views of character designs, and collect or compose additional imagery to be used as references for designing the atmospheric and lighting effects within the environment scenery.

Commencing the second part of the course, the students will reflect to their concept references to model all the designed assets within a variety of 3D software application. Attention to detail is a must. Depending on their field of choice the students will be trained on advance modeling techniques such as Low and High Resolution modeling, Topology, Level of Detail (LOD), UV Unwrapping, Texturing, Detailing within a 3D sculpting application, Shading, Lighting, Atmospheric Effects, Depth of Field (DOF), Render Passes, Linear Workflow photorealistic techniques and more.

By the end of the course the student will have created a complete scene that is exported with appropriate manner depending on their field of choice. Movie based students will render several multi-angled images along their render passes and composite the scenery using advanced post-production techniques to enhance the final visuals. Game based students will create their final scenery within a game engine and export an interactive walkthrough of the game scene (level).

Notes: Shared projects between groups are also available for collaborated projects where two teams will be formed, one for creating all the assets in Low Resolution that is used for game play mode and another team recreating the same assets in High Resolution used for the gameʼs movie trailer.

 

3D Animation (Level 2) (Prior knowledge required: 3D Animation Level 1 / 3D Modeling Level 1)

Who is it for: Anyone who is already familiar with 3D animation and modeling techniques and seeks to develop advance skills in regards to applying for a job. University students and graduates or industry professionals.

Course Details:

The Level 2 course of the 3D Animation is an intense course focusing solely on creating a short animated sequence based on a script. The course is divided in three stages, pre- production, production, post-production. During the preproduction stage the students are expected to design 2-3 finalized characters and come up with a short script that includes character interaction and dialogue. In addition the students will be required to design the environments where the animated sequences will take place. A storyboard will be created and an animatic will be produced using recorded dialogue, sound effects and music based on the script.

The production stage will be split into two phases, the technical phase and the animation phase. During the technical phase of the production the students will be expected to model, texture, light, and rig all the characters and environments existing in the script. Prior knowledge of 3D modeling techniques is essential during this phase as efficiency is always the key. A series of advanced technical workshops will also be provided teaching effective workflows that will help the students with any technical issues they may need to overcome. Once the animation phase commences, the students will be expected to animate all the sequences according to the script. Specific tips and tricks will be revealed aiming to aid the students animating their characters as seamlessly as possible to a high polished state of the art standard.

Finally at the post-production stage the students will render out their animated sequences frame by frame. Following with compositing and editing workshops the students will produce their final video output by combining all the animated sequences along with the recorded sound effects, dialogue and music into one cohesive and coherent short film. In addition the students will receive dedicated training in the area of post-production effects to enhance the appeal of their short films as well as designing animated title sequences at the beginning and ending of their films.

 

Character Design & 3D Digital Sculpting

(Suggested prior knowledge: 3D Modeling & Concept Art Level 1)

Who is it for: Anyone who already is familiar with 3D modeling techniques and is seeking to develop further skills in regards to applying for a job in the Games & Movies Industry. University students/graduates who aim to level up their skills fast. Industry professionals.

Course Details:

This is an advance course dedicated to teaching the students advance techniques and workflows required in the industry regarding character design. A series of short exercises will train the attendants to brainstorm ideas and materialize them into pictures by breaking all the design elements to smaller chunks of visual information. The students will learn to bend the rules of creativity in order to “loosen” their thoughts on what is allowed and what is not allowed in the area of cartoon character design and game/movie fantasy character design whilst staying within a given theme. The course aims to challenge the studentsʼ ability to think fast, think smart, and think wide in order to produce a vast variety of characters.

A series of workshops will teach the students how to deconstruct their ideas in order to construct, form and design creatures and characters from their imagination. Added to this the students will learn to observe their surroundings in search for shapes and references that correlate with their concepts. They will study human anatomy, nature, animals and people, history monuments, documentaries and films in order to gather a list of ideas and observe how other professional artists create their work. This will help them to be judgmental during their moments of creative aspiration. A selection of the studentsʼ character designs will be studied further in detail by designing character poses, turn- around sheets, mouth shapes and facial expressions.

Following the above process, the course will then train the attendants to use industryʼs standard 3D Digital Sculpting applications to recreate the same characters in 3D using advanced digital sculpting tools and workflows. Lastly, the 3D Digital sculpture will be textured, shaded, and rendered via the 3D application to produce all the appropriate render passes such as ambient occlusion, shadows, reflectivity, specular highlight, diffusion, depth, mask and more. All the passes will then be imported in an image editing application to be composited using advanced post-production techniques and finally be exported as one solid state of the art image.

Note: The Character Design & 3D Digital Sculpting course can be embedded into the 3D Modeling Level 2 course.
